A Night at The Oscars

A Night at The Oscars

Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire, UK

What does it take to design, script, present and conduct a pops concert?

How does a pops show differ to a classical concert? What should you programme? Where do you source the music? Who will you choose as  your soloist? What are the challenges for the orchestra? Who is your audience?

If you are curious about the answers to these questions, join us  for a very exciting joint venture that brings together And Other Duties, the Wiltshire Music Centre, the West of England Youth Orchestra, and West End vocal sensation Emily Apps.

A NIGHT AT THE OSCARS is a celebration of everyone’s favourite Academy Award-winning songs and film scores – and we are offering two conductors the chance to fully immerse themselves in all aspects of this fascinating, exhilarating and ever-popular side to orchestral life.

This is a fully hands-on course. Not only will you assist Tim Redmond – taking preliminary orchestral rehearsals, giving balance notes, and liaising with the venue on technical and musical issues – but you will also be performing yourself. Both conductors will be given selected items to conduct in the concerts on January 2 and 3.

And, as with all AND OTHER DUTIES courses, there will be talks, seminars and teaching sessions to enable you to build your own pops concert.

Course fee £1000

Please note, participants are resposible for their own accommodation arragements on this course.

Observer places available on request and subject to availability.

Priority will be given to applications recieved before November 16th 2025.
